Chai Recipe

Since the days are getting colder we seek hot beverages. And all the famous coffeeshops sell some basic drinks with several aromas for a fairly big amount of money. Are you also fed up with paying nearly 5-10 francs for your beverages or buying pseudo readymade powder, but still want to enjoy different drinks? Then keep reading. I will tell you how to make a good chai at home!

Ingredients:

  • 4 cardamom seeds
  • 4 cloves
  • 2 black peppercorns
  • 1 cinnamon sticks
  • 1/2 Tablespoon fennel seeds
  • 1 slice ginger (2cm)
  • 4 bags black tea (mild: Lipton, Twinings) or 2 bags (strong: PG)
  • 6 tablespoon of honey
  • 3 dl milk
  • 3 dl water
  • (Coriander seeds, fenugreek, mint leaves)

How to make it:

Step one:

Place cardamom, cloves, black peppercorns, cinnamon stick and sliced ginger in a medium saucepan. Add about 0.5 dl of water and let the flavours come out. Then after 3 minutes add the rest of the water and the tea leaves, cover, and let steep for 7 minutes.

Step two:

Add the honey. If you need extra sweetness you can also add sugar in this step.

Step three:

Add milk and let it steep for another 5 minutes.

Step four:

Strain to cups, add a bit of ground cinnamon and enjoy!
